Der Vorstand des Centre for the Classical Tradition (CCT) lädt für Donnerstag, den 06.11.2025 um 18:00 Uhr c.t. in Seminarraum 11 der Universität Bonn (Rabinstraße 8, Erdgeschoss) alle Interessierten herzlich zum X. Atelier 'Antikerezeption' ein: In seinem Rahmen wird Herr ass. Prof. Dr. Naoya Iwata (Center for Digital Humanities and Social Sciences, Nagoya University, Japan) zum Thema ‚Humanitext Antiqua. A Retrieval-Augmented AI Platform for Research in Western Classics’ sprechen.
Humanitext Antiqua is a retrieval-augmented (RAG) AI assistant for working with primary texts in Western Classics. In its current form, it supports a curated corpus of roughly one hundred authors and about one thousand works in Greek and Latin. Instead of keyword searches, users can pose plain-language questions and run semantic search across the selected authors and works or the entire corpus; the system then retrieves relevant passages and uses them to generate grounded, readable answers with transparent “Sources” shown beneath each answer, so users can see exactly which texts informed the response. I will begin with a brief introduction to the essential features of the system for a general audience, and focus on what this enables in practice for researchers and educators in classics and related fields—e.g., exploring motifs across the available corpus, checking ideas against the texts, and accelerating reference discovery. I will conclude with next steps for corpus coverage and retrieval quality, and briefly sketch “agentic” workflows in which the system can autonomously probe questions further and help discover additional primary passages and relevant secondary literature.
Sein Vortrag wird von Seiten des CCT gemeinsam mit Frau Prof. Dr. Julia Hillner (Bonn Center for Dependency and Slavery Studies [BCDSS], Universität Bonn) organisiert werden, die an einem größeren Projektunternehmen der Universitäten Bonn und Nagoya beteiligt ist.
